# aboard servers

> List the servers this machine knows, and choose its default.

```text theme={null}
aboard servers [--json]
aboard servers use <url|name> [--json]
aboard servers name <url|name> <name> [--json]
aboard servers rename <old> <new> [--json]
```

Lists the servers this machine knows: its local server, once it has run, and every server it connected or logged in to, with the person it signs in as there. A \* marks the default server.

Person commands act on `--server` when given, otherwise the saved default. Folder links are ignored and left untouched. With known servers but no default, choose before credentials or writes. A fresh local bootstrap saves the local server as its default. A machine that knows only its initialized local server keeps that bootstrap default, including older installs. Otherwise, known servers without a saved default return runnable choices.

Servers have local names; use a name wherever a server URL is accepted. servers name and rename change only this machine's label. Agents may list and rename known servers; use stays person-only. local always selects this machine's local server. It never moves an agent: sessions keep their issuer-bound seats, including seats on several servers.

## Flags

| Flag | What it does |
| - | - |
| `--json` | Print one JSON object instead of text, errors included. |

## Examples

```bash theme={null}
# The servers this machine knows, and its default
aboard servers
# Make a team's server the default
aboard servers use https://team.example.com
# Make the local server the default again
aboard servers use local
```
